Reiki is a system of energetic healing developed by Dr Mikao Usui in Japan. (Dr Usui lived from 1865 to 1926). Traditionally, Reiki was used as a personal spiritual practice, using meditation and chanting, along with other elements of the system.
As Dr Usui’s students took Reiki to the West, the focus became concentrated on hands-on healing. This is how Reiki is best known.
Reiki is practiced in many settings world-wide, including hospitals, health clinics, nursing homes, companies and so on. Reiki assists people to heal themselves at the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels.
There are many benefits of Reiki. These include:
- deep relaxation
- feeling more energized
- healing the body, mind and spirit.
Each person will experience Reiki differently and gain different things, according to their own needs.

A one hour treatment will usually involve the following elements:
- For newcomers to Reiki, initially a brief explanation of Reiki and what to expect is provided.
- The practitioner will then explore your needs.
- You lie (fully-clothed) on a massage table for the treatment. The practitioner will place their hands either on or off your body (or both) - depending on your preferences - in various positions.
- At the end, a brief discussion of what was experienced may follow.

Reiki treatments of between 15 minutes and 1 hour are conducted at your home. This is because animals usually feel most comfortable in their own surroundings.
Reiki will only be provided to animals when they are open to receiving it. Therefore, you will be asked to email a photo of your pet to Toni so that she can work out whether your animal is open to Reiki. Toni will call you the following day to discuss the treatment and convenient times. Daytime, evening or weekend appointments are available and all types of animals are treated.
Depending on the condition or issue, an animal may require one or more sessions of Reiki to obtain the maximum benefit.
